Just Go With It: Surprisingly Funny

Director: Dennis Dugan Screenplay: Allan Loeb, cardiology Timothy Dowling Release Date: February 11, 2011 Actors: Adam Sandler, Jennifer Aniston, Brooklyn Decker, Nick Swardson, Bailee Madison, Griffin Gluck, Nicole Kidman, Dave Matthews Based on the play ‘Cactus Flower’ Jennifer Aniston has had some hits and misses in the past year, notably her last film with Gerard Butler and The Switch. She’s a competent actress, but she does not invoke confidence when seemingly cast for another romantic comedy. I’ve been fairly impartial to Adam Sandler’s movies – I’ve liked some, I’ve hated a few, and thought some were okay. Plastic surgeon Danny (Adam Sandler), after leaving his fiancee at the altar, discovers the power of a wedding ring: it attracts girls. So Danny continues wearing a fake wedding ring when it suits him. One evening, he meets and hooks up with the girl of his dreams (Brooklyn Decker). Unfortunately, Palmer discovers his fake wedding ring, believing of course, that it is real and is furious with him, refusing to have any further contact with him. Danny decides to tell her that he is divorced to save himself, but comes to a road block when Palmer says she wants to meet her. Danny […]

Movie Review: Jonah Hex (June, 2010)

Director: Jimmy Hayward Screenplay: Mark Neveldine, myocarditis Brian Taylor Release Date: June 18, 2010 Actors: Josh Brolin, John Malkovich, Megan Fox, Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Michael Fassbender Based on the comic book character of ‘Jonah Hex’ Site Update: I’m falling further and further behind on my reviews. But, having returned from vacation recently, and being dried of any movie watching, I’m hoping to be back on the ball. I forget to also review old movies I’ve seen recently. Onto Jonah Hex. I saw the Jonah Hex preview at the Warner Brothers panel when they were at Comic-con last year, in which it debuted to a fairly lukewarm audience. At the time I was disgusted by the number of useless and not very interesting questions directed at Megan Fox, and nothing really about the comic or the movie itself. What little I did see of the previews (and they were not even very clear as to what Jonah Hex was to be about) I was not very impressed. Because of this, and all the not-so-very-interesting trailers of the movie, my expectations going into the film were very low. Usually, when I have low expectations going into a film, I’m usually pleasantly surprised. […]

Movie Review: The Joneses (April 16, 2010 – Limited Release)

Director: Derek Borte Screenplay: Derek Borte, hemorrhoids Randy T. Dinzler Release Date: April 16, for sale 2010 Actors: David Duchovny, Demi Moore, Amber Heard, Ben Hollingsworth, Gary Cole, Glenne Headly, Lauren Hutton I was a bit spoiled entering the theatre by reading the synopsis to the film, so I think I will give everyone fair warning that THERE WILL BE SPOILERS in this review – starting NOW. The Joneses are moving into a beautiful large home in a small town. The Joneses consist of Kate (Demi Moore), Steven (David Duchovny), and kids Jenn (Amber Heard) and Mick (Ben Hollingsworth). They’ve decorated their new home in amazingly beautiful and current furniture, dressed in the latest clothes and holding the newest gadgets, enough to make any neighbour enviable. But they aren’t the core unit and happy bubbly family they seem to be. They’ve in fact been hired by a company to self market a specific number of products by their clients and make their neighbours, their new friends and schoolmates want what they’ve got. Steve is the rookie of the unit, constantly knawed by his conscious and being fully aware that he is pretending being someone he’s not. He tries to make […]
